Trekking to the famous Tiger’s Nest monastery will be a unique experience and one of the highlights of your trip to Bhutan.
Tiger’s Nest should be reached as early as possible, so that you will have the chance to explore it in full peace and quiet. After an early breakfast you will drive 40 minutes to the starting point of the excursion and then just 2 -4 hours of climbing and trekking to Tiger’s Nest .
A guide and a further companion will be with the participants, so that they can be divided into two groups: this just to respect everyone’s pace. The path to the monastery is wide and unpaved.
It is uphill all the way, but not excessively steep. Most people can climb it.
The Tiger’s Nest was built in 1692 around the cave where Guru Rinpoche meditated for the first time. That event introduced Buddhism to Bhutan. According to a legend Guru Rinpoche was transported from Tibet to this position on the back of a tiger, giving it the name of “Tiger’s Nest”.
Nowadays this monastery consists of four temples with residential housing for the monks. Despite the daily visits of tourists, Paro Takstang still functions as a monastery today.
If you arrive early enough, it will be possible for you to do a short meditation session in one of the many sacred rooms of the Tiger’s Nest.
After your visit you will descend and go back to the resort.
Lunch at the resort.
After that trekking morning you will have the opportunity to try a traditional hot stone bath based on 5 healing herbs.
In the afternoon you can take part in a special Bhutanese cooking class offered by one of the Sanctuary chefs.
In the evening you will have a Bhutanese family style dinner, so that you can taste the Bhutanese cuisine in the best possible atmosphere.
At night you can sit around the outdoor fireplace with other participants and enjoy some home-made snacks and drinks.
